354 Differential Attainment in Surgical Training

Abstract Introduction Differential attainment (DA), according to the General Medical Council (GMC), is gap between levels in different groups. Attainment measures should cover aspects that include academic performance and career progression. Two such areas surgical training are MRCS examinations ARCPs, both of which required for progression a surgery. Our aim was investigation whether socio-economic background significant factor training. Method Data from GMC Core Surgical Trainees (CSTs) taking examination 2016 2019 CST ARCP outcomes 2017 were obtained. Socio-economic assessed using Index Multiple Deprivation (IMD). against IMD. Results IMD Q1&2 (most deprived) had significantly higher (p < 0.01) mean number attempts (1.86) pass than trainees Q4&5 (least (1.54). more likely obtain unsatisfactory (24.4%) (14.2%) 0.05). Conclusions There clear evidence differential exists within Training. The reasons this be complex work needed further investigate relationship.
